Millennials VS. Associations

Before I start, I will always say that price structure is going to be your biggest obstacle with millennials. I was asking a friend, who isn't a member of associations, how they felt about joining one, to which I got: "We don't even like paying for the things we have to pay for." And after a pause asked: "is there a reason I’d have to join one?"

This got me thinking and made me realize that if it wasn't because someone else signed me up, I wouldn't have done it.  So naturally I thought, why aren't associations marketing to our employers?!

Millennials stay with their employers longer than Gen-X workers did at the same ages; in fact, more Gen-Xers spent less than one year at any one job…

If you look at pretty much any statistic about us, you'll see we are more likely to choose employers that would want us to have a membership.

On the other side of that, why not take advantage of the millennials you currently have employed, after all we are the number one generation in the workforce.  You must have at least one employed so if you haven't already done so, sign them up!  Support your fellow associations while helping to spread the word about associations to millennials.

How is one person going to make a difference? Have them write a blog!! If you paid attention to my last blogyou'll understand that we are very much a word of mouth crowd and we trust blogs over your website content any day.

I guess because I am one, I don't understand the fascination older generations have with the millennials but at the same time, I am fascinated with your fascination.  That said, join me next week for more on millennials and the things that frustrate us about associations.

Also, I am always interested in hearing things associations find frustrating about the millennial generation. Email me at kfisher@highroadsolution.com to see if I can turn your frustration into my next blog!
