To maintain a successful social media marketing strategy, organizations must monitor their tactics and plans closely, re-evaluate them constantly, and make adjustments based on the latest trends and developments. With the new year fast-approaching, now is a good time to review some social media trends to watch for in 2017.

Video Is Still Hot

Video will continue as an essential component of your social media strategy. 60% of marketers currently use video, and 73% plan to increase their use of video in the future. A big part of the video element is live video. 50% plan to use Facebook live or some other form of live video, and 50% said they want to learn more about it.

The Big Dog Will Remain Big

Facebook will continue to hold the top spot in marketer's future plans - 55% said it's their most important channel. LinkedIn was a distant second at 18%. And two-thirds plan to increase their use of Facebook. Facebook ads also dominate, with 86% of social media marketers using paid Facebook ads compared to just 18% for paid Twitter ads.

Snapchat Will Grow

Only about 5% of marketers used Snapchat in 2016, but 16% will increase their Snapchat activities, and 28% want to learn more about it. What began as a way for people to post videos and photos that disappear a few seconds after a person views them has become a marketing tool with multiple uses.
